Examining the indirect effects of embodied learning on adaptability: The mediating roles of challenge stressors and psychological capital

We examined the efficacy of embodied learning for augmenting leader psychological capital—a latent construct reflecting hope, optimism, self-efficacy, and resilience. To do so, we leveraged literature on cognition challenge-hindrance stressor framework to better understand how involving both body mind during (i.e., learning) can lead heightened perceptions challenge stressors, which then result in greater capital. also expected that higher levels capital relate subsequent adaptability job. tested these predictions two quasi-experimental field studies. Study 1 included a sample 141 executive MBA students 2 163 working managers. In studies, disembodied condition consisted classroom training. The an outdoor adventure training component (including 88 km hiking race various team challenges) conducted Gobi Desert nature park 2. results first study revealed participants group experienced post-learning than those mediated relationship between approach peer-rated 6 months later. replicated positive extended it by showing stressors this relationship.
